Camille Rousseau is a French artist, based between Amsterdam and Paris. She studied graphic design then specialised in film and 3D animation in in Arles south of France, before completing an MA communication and design at Central St Martins. She creates on different mediums and with the use of varying materials. Her practice is grounded in the line. A single concern and a constant exploration that irrigates all her work, from commercial commissions to personal research. Driven by the need to unpack the behaviour and meaning of the mother of all gestures, her work resembles a form of meditation grounded in repetition and flow. She has covered a wide variety of clients in advertising, publishing, packaging, editorial, interior design, brand development.
“My role is to help people dream. To me, an artist is someone who blows you away in a split-second, leveraging space and lines. Being surprised is paramount to me. I actually feel best when visual accidents happen in my work. It sends me back to the basics: emotions and decisions. These are powerful levers that I try to emulate in abstract paintings, looking for the unexpected with a sense of balance and beauty."

Camille Rousseau est une artiste plasticienne française. Née à Paris en 1980, formée à la
St Martin’s School of Art de Londres, elle vit à Amsterdam depuis 2017. Son travail interroge l’apparente évidence du geste artistique, réinterprétant continuellement le motif de la ligne. Nourri de répétition mais aussi de musique, son langage s’empare de matériaux bruts - papier carbone, encres, pigments, pastels ou bois - qu’elle convoque dans une célébration poétique du vivant. Ce travail fonctionne comme un terrain de recherche pour son travail personnel, plus abstrait et expérimental. La main presse, malaxe, broie, frotte, joue des fissures et des transparences, s’approprie la matière organique. Plumes d’oiseaux, roches et poussières, fibres, écorces et veines restituent et associent leurs motifs comme de mystérieux fossiles, l’énigme d’un passé ressuscité. Artiste indépendante, Camille Rousseau nourrit depuis 15 ans son travail personnel de collaborations comme directrice artistique et curatrice dans les domaines de l’édition, de la mode, de l’architecture d’intérieur et du développement de marques.
Elle a exposé à Paris, Londres, Francfort, Amman, Salzbourg, Genève et Amsterdam.
